The Beach Chair Position
The beach chair position is one of the two principle patient positions during shoulder arthroscopy. In this position, the patient is seated in a reclining chair with their feet elevated and their arms abducted at 90 degrees. The surgeon stands behind the patient and inserts the arthroscope into the shoulder joint through a small incision. The beach chair position provides good access to the shoulder joint and allows the surgeon to visualize the joint from multiple angles.
