Jayson Tatum Shines as Boston Takes Series Lead
Boston Celtics 107, Dallas Mavericks 89
The Boston Celtics took a commanding lead in the 2024 NBA Finals Presented by YouTube TV with a 107-89 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 on Tuesday night. Jayson Tatum led the way for the Celtics with 39 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Jaylen Brown added 34 points and 4 assists.
The Celtics built a 17-point lead in the first half and never looked back, shooting 46.8% from the field compared to 36.0% for the Mavericks. The win improves Boston's record to 47-12 on the season, while the Mavericks fall to 34-26.
Luka Dončić led the Mavericks with 28 points, but he struggled from the field, shooting just 10-of-26. Spencer Dinwiddie added 20 points for the Mavericks, but it wasn't enough to offset the Celtics' balanced offensive attack.
The Celtics will look to take a 2-0 series lead when they host the Mavericks in Game 2 on Thursday night. The Mavericks will need to make some adjustments if they want to get back into the series.
